Based on an incident that took place in Nigeria during British colonial rule, “Death and the King’s Horseman” probes the relationship between the unborn, the living, and the dead, weaving both African and European traditions into this tale of cultural responsibility. Combining Yoruba drumming and dance, the play exemplifies Soyinka's unique style of classical tragedy and African performance traditions. In addition to the internationally acclaimed guest artists on this production, Professor Soyinka will also be a guest of honor at a performance, reception, and book signing at Kalamazoo College.
